Yesterday, a co-worker told me about a new Google Maps feature: Street View. Apparently, it’s only available for a few select cities San Francisco and parts of New York City. (Please, correct me if I’m wrong.)
Out of curiosity, I decided to check it out. Much to my surprise, some major streets in the Bronx — my hometown — were included. What really freaked me out, though, was seeing the apartment building I grew up in; my mother still lives there.
It’s a nifty feature to use, and I’m curious to see what other features Google will develop for it’s map application. This one was rather unexpected for me, though.

Google Maps also has street views for Denver, Las Vegas, and Miami. Amazon/A9 used to have these kinds of photos for parts of SF and NYC (I think), but Google Maps definitely improves on the interface and the zoomable, high-res shots. A little freaky for sure… but somewhat cool and time-consuming… I just “walked” down a street in my old college town!

Yeah, I thought A9.com had a similar thing going on; I seem to recall using it to find the HRC Action Center & Store in Dupont Circle. (A9 was off by a couple of buildings, if memory serves.) I went to A9 today to compare it, but I guess they took it offline. A9 as a whole looks a lot different than when I last used it.
