The Cakester: An oversized Oreo Cakester sits outside Washington, DC’s Union Station. The prop commemorates the 95th anniversary of the Oreo sandwich cookie. (FredoAlvarez/flickr)
There never seems to be a dull moment at Union Station. When I arrived there on the bus this morning, I noticed this giant, oversized food thing near the Metro entrance. It turned out to be a decidedly oversized advertisement promoting the Oreo Cakester. There was also a stage set up nearby, and I can’t imagine what’s being planned for this today. I think I gained back the 12 pounds I recently lost just looking at this.

Yikes. I’d gain 20 lbs just looking at that.
It definitely obscures the station. The temporary directions to find the Union Station will be to refer to the Giant Oreo until a bunch of people cave in and eat it.

Actually, the obscured building you see behind it is the National Postal Museum. Union Station would be to the far right of the giant snack treat. But you’re quite right about the directions to the station.
