Alice Ghostley — an actress who, as Bernice Clifton on “Designing Women,” made me bust a gut laughing — passed away yesterday. The video cip above shows one of her memorable performances.
On a more personal note, Jonathan, a friend who made me bust a gut in person, lost his battle with leukemia this week. Funeral arrangements haven’t been finalized.
We first met a few years ago when we were both coordinators of our respective Gen-X Bear groups (him in New York City; me here in D.C.). We organized a couple of outings between members of both groups. Outside of those, he’d come visit D.C. with friends just to visit. He found humour in some of the most unusual ways, like a blue wig he called “the Biggie Shorty wig.”
It’s been a long while since I last saw him; we hadn’t been especially close as of late. I’m sorry I didn’t do more to reach out to him, especially since his diagnosis last winter.

That is so sad! I loved her on that show so much. Thanks for getting the word out.
