Time to add two more allies to the list. Jeanne Phillips, the current Dear Abby, supports same-sex marriages. And with that, PFLAG will honor her with their first Straight for Equality award.
“I believe if two people want to commit to each other, God bless ‘em,” the syndicated advice columnist told The Associated Press. “That is the highest form of commitment, for heaven’s sake.”
Phillips’ mother Pauline, the original Dear Abby (or Abigail Van Buren), made reference to the group in a 1984 column. Jeanne continues to plug the group in her column now.
The Cleveland Free Times today published an interview with DC-area native Henry Rollins, where he states his support of gay marriages.
I think it’s really lame what’s going on with those that are gay and I’m not gay…. [W]hen you see the kind of hatred exacted at these people who can’t help how they feel about men, it’s sad…. I think if Bill and Tom want to get married, they should be able to in America. If someone has a problem with that, go on your way.
He also comments on the Larry Craig case and admits he’s going easy on him when he really shouldn’t.

Hank has been a long time supporter of gay marriage. In 2005 Bob Mould staged an all-star lineup to benefit gay marriage causes at the 9:30 Club. Rollins MC’d the event which featured the those two, John Cameron Mitchel, Sandra Bernhard, Richard Morel, Purty Mouth, Avenue D, and Ben Jelen.

Well, I should say that his support doesn’t really surprise me all that much — it’s just nice to have something in print.
And it was a nice tie-in to the Dear Abby thing.

I’ve always thought Rollins was a cool guy. Him saying this makes him so much cooler.
