In case you missed it earlier, here’s a shot of the double rainbow that appeared over the D.C. area this evening around 6:20 local time. Rainbows in D.C. are rare as is, let alone a double rainbow. My iPhone camera didn’t do it justice, but this was definitely one of the most vibrant rainbows I’d ever seen.
I was hoping that I’d get home from Union Station to get a better shot – I took this photo across the street from there – but it was practically faded before I could get my digital SLR to take a better shot of it. C’est la vie, as the French say.
At the very least, I’m glad I was able to get this shot. Brian was also able to get a several shots of today’s rainbow.

I have never seen a double rainbow for real. Only pictures. Thats a lovely pic buddy.
From what I’m reading, it only lasted about 10 minutes or so. I should have gone with my first instinct and just taken my pics from inside my apartment… dirty windows and all.
@Romach: Thanks man.
@Brian: I would say it lasted closer to 20. It was about 6:40 when I got home, and though it was rapidly fading I was still able to see it clearly. It truly made my day.
I was hoping to alert LJ users to it by doing a voice post just after exiting the bus. I was BLOWN away at how many different colors were visible! My post was at 6:25, and it took probably a minute or two to do the post. And the auto transcriber was spot on!
PS: At about 6:30 a plane was taking off from National, heading right into the rainbows! It was like an airline commercial.
@Tom Aloisi: Did you notice which airline it was?
Surprised that didnt make twitter…
@Lolypup: You’re surprised what didn’t make twitter? If you’re referring to the photo, it did.
Hi – thought you’d enjoy seeing my double rainbow photo taken from my balcony. Let me know if you’d like to share it with others.
