‘Rent’ Film 2

July 26th, 2008 · No Comments

Rent will hit the big screen again. This time around it won’t be a film adaptation, but rather a filmed performance.
Playbill reports that the musical’s final Broadway performance on September 7 (June 1 was the original closing date.) will be filmed as part of Sony Pictures’ venture “the Hot Ticket.” The performance will play in [...]

Apt Comparison

July 25th, 2008 · No Comments

From TMZ’s gallery of Muppets and their celebrity lookalikes, Janice the Muppet and Donatella Versace.

Speaking of which, the Smithsonian’s Ripley Center currently features the exhibit “Jim Henson’s Fantastic World” now through October 5. The Smithsonian is the fourth stop on the exhibit’s tour, [...]

Fail Rail

July 16th, 2008 · 3 Comments

As someone who abhors air travel — at best I relegate it to one of life’s necessary evils — and is currently unable to drive himself anywhere, I much prefer traveling by rail whenever it’s reasonable to do so. The often ridiculous expense is a trade-off between comfort and — thanks to living within the [...]

Recently, one of my housemates and I drove past the Checkers at 14th Street and Maryland Avenue NE, and I noticed that it was boarded up. Considering there were a couple of crime-related incidents there in the past, I figured that either the shop was closing up for good or they decided to board [...]

I.S.O. ‘227’

June 24th, 2008 · 4 Comments

In the 1980s, NBC aired a sitcom called “227,” set in Washington, D.C. Someone on a listserv I’m on asked, “[Did] they ever establish in that series where in DC it was supposed to be set?”
I did a little poking around and found out that the show takes place at 227 Lexington Place. Anyone familiar [...]

‘Your Stupid’

June 19th, 2008 · No Comments

Pieces of Flair is one of those cute but ultimately useless applications available on facebook. (Yes, I have it on my profile.) Every now and then, I come across a piece like the one pictured at right. I direct your attention to the last two words.
YES YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO YOUR OPINION AND I [...]

Search for just about any LGBT-related term in Google, and you’ll see a set of rainbow stripes (link via gooster) dividing the regular search results from the paid ones. Note that your browser window has to be wide enough for them to show up; in this case, the window pictured above is 935 [...]

New Comment Features

June 16th, 2008 · 2 Comments

A minor site update. Yesterday, I installed a couple of plugins that I hope make commenting on this blog a little more pleasant.

@commenter:…
The result resembled a twitter reply:
@commenter:…
Now anyone who comments here can do that with far less [...]
