There are 538 electoral votes up for grabs in the 2008 presidential election, and a candidate must acquire 270 — just over 50% — of those votes to win. 270toWin.com presents a map showing which states will go to each candidate based on current poll numbers.
If the election were today, Sen. Barack Obama would likely have 260 of the required votes in the bag, while Sen. John McCain trails behind with 163.
I know it probably shouldn’t, but this somehow seems slightly reassuring to me.
The other cool thing about this site: you can go back in time and see electoral vote maps from the very first election onward.
