I have no qualms admitting I have a collection of Madonna music. I own copies of the bulk of her repertoire. (But not American Life; WTF was that all about?!) So when I heard a new album (Hard Candy) was on the way, I put checking it out on my theoretical to-do list — the one that exists in my head. The theoretical list includes things I want to do, but don’t have a high priority on. Going to the gym and redesigning this website seem to find their ways to this list often.

It so happened that I stumbled across the video for the first single (”4 Mintues”) as I caught up on my blog feeds. “Meh… what the hell,” I figured, “I may as well watch it now while it’s in front of me.”

So, I watched it. Four minutes (and six seconds) later, I decided I kinda dug the song itself, minus the introductory cruft from Timbaland. (Really people, I can do without rapping at the beginning of pop songs. “Umbrella” and the 2001 version of “Lady Marmalade” come to mind.) The video left something to be desired, though. I must admit that I was fixated at the part where a couple is making out and their faces seem to peel away, exposing the action of their flapping tongues. It reminded me of a sex toy I once saw advertised on an adult pay-per-view channel many years ago.

And then it reminded me of the Bodies exhibit.

Care to see for yourself? The video is after the jump.

Lots o’ news from the good folks in Cupertino today.

At an invitation-only event in San Francisco, Steve Jobs unveiled the Rokr mobile phone, capable of playing music from iTunes. The project was jointly produced by Motorola and Apple and was in the works since May 2004.

iPod Nano (image courtesy of Apple)Apple also introduced the iPod Nano, a slim, scaled down version of the current fourth-generation iPods. The Nanos feature flash-based hard drives (similar to those in the shuffles) and full-color screens. The Nanos are available in white or black with either a 2 GB (500 songs) or 4 GB (1,000 songs) capacity.

On top of this hardware bounty, Warner Bros. is set to make a mint on iTunes: Madonna’s complete music catalog was released exclusively to the music store (I can almost hear every homo squeal with delight over that), and all six audiobooks in the Harry Potter series are available for purchase on iTunes. Apple also released a collector’s edition Harry Potter iPod, a 20 GB model featuring the Hogwarts crest laser engraved on the reverse.

The audiobooks range in price from $33 to $50; all six can be purchased for $249. The Harry Potter iPod is $299.

Alright, I know… it’s time for me to put down the cup of Apple-flavoured Kool-Aid.
