VMA Post-Mortem

September 10th, 2007 · Comments Off

Out of pure habit — or perhaps because I really am a masochist — I watched the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, a show that becomes ever more craptacular as the years roll by. I knew the show was going to be bad, but I didn’t expect anything like last night’s show.
Of course, those who [...]

Music Vid: All My Friends

July 9th, 2007 · Comments Off

Those of you who remember Nickelodeon programming from the late 1980s and early 1990s might appreciate this music video from the XYZ Affair. “All My Friends” features a plot against next door neighbour Marc Summers (”Double Dare”), and cameos from Danny Cooksey (”Salute Your Shorts”), Jason Zimbler (”Clarissa Explains it All”) and Michael Maronna (”The [...]

Apple Not Excited by iGasm Ad

May 23rd, 2007 · 9 Comments

Apple is not turned on by the ad for a naughty accessory. The ad closely resembles Apple’s silhouette campaign for the iPod.
The iGasm (link totally NSFW) is a device that attaches to the iPod and allows the user to “take your appreciation of music to a whole new level.” Yes, it vibrates.
I wonder what kind [...]

Alanis Morissette offers her video rendition of the Black Eyed Peas ditty “My Humps.”

I absolutely hated the song when it first came out a few years ago. I now have a higher appreciation for it.

Premium ’Tunes

April 2nd, 2007 · Comments Off

Apple and EMI Music inked a deal to sell DRM-free music on iTunes. The agreement allows iTunes to sell DRM-free songs at a higher bit rate (256 kbps versus the current 128 kbps) in AAC format for $1.29 each.
The lack of DRM will also allow these premium offerings to play on other digital music players, [...]

Fill Your iTunes Voids

March 29th, 2007 · Comments Off

If you ever bought a single song from iTunes and later decided to get the full album, you had to either pay for each remaining track individually; or just buy the full album, essentially repurchasing songs. Either way, it would cost more than if you just bought the album in the first place. Now you [...]

Do the Locomotion

March 15th, 2007 · Comments Off

This week, I’m plowing through the L portion of my Music A-Z Project. Today seems to be Ricky Martin Day; I’d forgotten about the umpteen remixes of “Livin’ La Vida Loca.” In that same vein, yesterday was Live Day — Live the band, not the performance variety. “Lightning Crashes” cropped up three or four times.
At [...]

Henery

February 14th, 2007 · Comments Off

On my way into my second job last night, I heard “I’m Henery the Eighth, I Am” in my Music from A-Z playlist. The song on my iPod, according to Wikipedia, is a 1911 recording of the song. (The article links to the MP3 file.)
Contrary to what some may think, the song is about a [...]
