I swear some of the features Google adds to Gmail just border on bizarre. As I composed an email this afternoon, I noticed an emoticon option on the formatting bar. Curious, I clicked it to see what it offered in the way of anthropomorphic smiley faces. The usual suspects were there, of course, but the last one in particular — highlighted in the image below — caught my attention.

That swirly brown stuff? It’s poo. Seriously. You know how I know? It’s animated.

Oh, yes. They went there.

Super Bowl Showdown
Super Bowl Showdown uploaded by FredoAlvarez/flickr
A goofy game a co-worker and I came up with today.

The New York Giants won Super Bowl LXII against the New England Patriots with a score of 17–14. But it wasn’t the only game the Giants won today.

In a fit of goofiness, Valerie (one of my colleagues at the fruit stand and on DCist) and I decided to keep a running tally of customers who came into our store wearing something from one of the teams in today’s game. Each time we saw something, we issued the team points based on the item. Team hats, which I thought would be the easiest (read: cheapest) thing someone could get there hands on, earned the team one point. Jerseys got 2 points. Sweatshirts and sweatpants got 5 each. And in the off chance someone came in with a full uniform, the team got 10 points. The game lasted from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. — basically from open to close.

When all was said and done, the Giants trounced the Patriots, 23–11.
