As far as Washington winters go, this has to be one of the mildest in recent memory. Forecasters gave us the “we’re gonna get hit hard” spiel, and all we had to show for it — at least in DC proper — is a thin veneer of ice with a pebbly texture.

Sure, I could have taken advantage of today’s unscheduled leave policy, but it’s just not worth it for me with the relatively tame conditions outside. I just want one legit snow day. Is that too much to ask for? Winter isn’t winter without one.

Chances are you’ve probably heard about this kid in Burke, Va., who called a school official at his home to ask/complain about the lack of a snow day last week. The school official’s wife returned the call, leaving a rather vitriolic message on the kid’s voicemail. The kid posted voicemail message on the internet and it spread like wildfire, natch.

We didn’t have any real visual to go with the audio until now, thanks to a hat tip from Machinist.

Next thing you know, we’ll be seeing “snotty-nosed brat” T-shirts for sale all over the place. (You saw it here first, people!)

My thoughts on the whole matter: in a word, ridiculous. It’s ridiculous the guy called the official’s house to complain or whatever in the first place, but in fairness he did call the office first and the home number was publicly available. The woman’s response was also ridiculous, but only barely. I don’t think she had any way of knowing how easy it can be to post audio from a phone message online. She obviously didn’t anticipate it.
