Yesterday, a judge ruled that Victor Kolako struck and killed two women crossing a street at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 7th Street NW with the Metrobus he drove. Kolako received a one-year sentence as a result.
Video of the accident aired on various local news outlets — I happened to catch it on channel 5 last night — and stopped the video short of the actual impact. A commenter on DCist pointed out a link to the full video, which was taken by a security camera at the National Archives. While the camera was too far away to capture the resulting gore, it’s still clearly provides a horrific show. The victims, Martha Schoenborn and Sally McGhee, are easily seen crossing the street and then run over.
The video is currently at wmata.us, which is pseudo-registered to Schoenborn with an address at the site of impact. My jaw totally hit the ground when I watched it in full — I even let out a loud-but-hoarse “OH MY GOD!” Watch at your own risk; I’d venture to say it’s more disturbing than “2 Girls 1 Cup.”
Update, 24 December: On Saturday, I was contacted via email by Gregory Schoenborn, husband of Metrobus accident victim Martha Schoenborn, regarding this blog entry. Mr. Schoenborn assured me that neither he nor his family had anything to do with the wmata.us website.
To clarify, I never believed the Schoenborn family had anything to do with wmata.us and it was never my intention to imply such. Whoever registered the wmata.us domain used Mrs. Schoenborn’s name without the knowledge of her husband or extended family. The registration information has since been updated and may be seen at whois.domaintools.com/wmata.us.
Mr. Schoenborn has set up a memorial website at www.schoenborn.net.
If you’ve not yet seen the internet phenominon known as “2 Girls, 1 Cup,” (Google it; I’m not linking it from here!) you may not get the parody, 2 Guys, 1 Cup. Or maybe you will. (via del.icio.us/urbanbohemian)
I’m not quite sure how I missed this one, but in the midst of an interview with an Aussie rugger, a Fox Sports camera inadvertently caught another one in the background doing a wango-tango, if you will. The video clip is below. Those of you in a hurry may forward to the 25-second mark.
At that resolution, it’s hard to tell if the background rugger has a sizable member, but it’s not the size that impresses me. It’s the fact it was caught on camera that makes me laugh. (video via Fleshbot)
