Would ya like to take a survey? A List Apart is currently running its second annual Survey for People Who Make Websites. It’s 18 (very short) pages long and takes only a few minutes to complete. If you’re a web professional, or even just a web hobbyist, you should totally take it.

Just sayin’.

A bagpiper demonstrates finger placement on the pipe chanter. The high A opening is pointed out.My friend (and former colleague) T.J. and I have been discussing a new project he’s working on at his job. It’s very pretty, but it is just too heavy in file size thanks to a Flash piece that’s to be included.

Me: is there *supposed* to be that expansive white space?
T.J.: no
T.J.: that’s the flash hole

It reminds me of the time I sat in a bagpiping class and the instructor reminded the students to keep their fingers on their A holes*. I, stifling laughter, said, “Okay, I have to go now!”

* Incidentally, there are two A holes on a bagpipe’s chanter, a high A and a low A; he referred to the high A hole, which is on the backside of the pipe chanter (diagram) and therefore made it even funnier. Oh, and did I mention the instructor is gay?
