The office cubicle turns 40 this month.
The open-office style was originally known as the “Action Office,” and was introduced by West Michigan’s Herman Miller Company in 1968.
Well, I don’t know about action, but the cube farm has been the bane of my existence for the last few years. Pictured above is a cubicle I once [...]

So, here’s a quirky thing about my office. The non-security doors on each floor of our office building are usually held open by electromagnets. Each door has a hinged plate that is attracted to an electromagnet affixed to the wall.
This system is designed in such a way that if the fire alarm goes [...]

Insert Ceiling Cat or pooping rainbows reference here.
Considering I work in a very gay environment, it’s almost appropriate that these now appear on the ceiling above my cube farm every afternoon. There’s a trophy that currently sits on a windowsill in a nearby office to thank for that.

Showering at the Office

To close out my otherwise slow day, I decided to do a little web surfing, and I came across a Miss Manners column from last October.
In it, a 60-year-old gentleman wrote:
[Men] don’t like [wedding and baby showers], and we don’t want to go to them. We all complain about it among ourselves, but none of [...]

So today is Valentine’s Day — or as I prefer to call it, Singles Awareness Day. I’ve never been a big fan of the holiday personally, so it’s more something I tolerate on an annual basis. (Really, do you need a special day to express how much you love someone?)

Super Bowl Showdown uploaded by FredoAlvarez/flickr
A goofy game a co-worker and I came up with today.
The New York Giants won Super Bowl LXII against the New England Patriots with a score of 17–14. But it wasn’t the only game the Giants won today.
In a fit of goofiness, Valerie (one of my colleagues at the fruit [...]

Party

I’m about to do something completely unheard of that I’ve never done before, ever. I’m attending my office’s Holiday Party™ (patent pending).
I’ve been with the organization now for over six years, and not once have I ever gone to one of our holiday parties. To be sure, I have done a couple of our summer [...]

Black Friday

By nature, I tend to avoid crowds. That said, I often avoid situations that would put me in the midst of a crowd. No such luck today; as a retail employee, today’s was a crowd I had to face sooner or later. It was the first time I stepped into a store on Black Friday [...]

It’s been 10 years since I last sat in a classroom, but I’ll be doing just that for the next three days. My day job is sending me to a class on Adobe Flash.
I’ve only used Flash peripherally, mostly to customize a file that would allow me to display titles on a web site in [...]
